Last updated: 2026

Welcome to the Alan Medbury, Private Chef website (the "Site"). These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Site and any private chef, dining, or catering services ("Services") booked through it. By using the Site or booking Services, you agree to these Terms.

1. About These Terms

"We," "us," and "our" refer to Alan Medbury, Private Chef. "You" and "client" refer to the person or party booking Services. If you're booking on behalf of a group, you're responsible for making sure everyone in your party is aware of and agrees to these Terms.

2. Booking & Deposits

  • A booking is confirmed only once a signed agreement (if applicable) and non-refundable deposit are received.

  • The deposit amount and due date will be provided at the time of booking.

  • The remaining balance is due on the day of your event, prior to or immediately following service, unless otherwise agreed in writing.

  • Menus, guest count, and event details should be finalized no later than 7 days before the event date. Changes requested after this point may incur additional fees.

3. Cancellations & Rescheduling

  • Cancellations made more than 4 days before the event date may be rescheduled at no additional cost, subject to availability.

  • Cancellations made within 48 hours of the event date will forfeit the deposit.

  • We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule a booking due to illness, extreme weather, or circumstances beyond our control (see Section 8, Force Majeure). In that case, we will work with you in good faith to reschedule or issue an appropriate refund of amounts paid beyond the deposit.

  • No-shows or same-day cancellations or cancellations made within 24 hours of event may be billed in full.

4. Guest Count & Final Numbers

Final guest counts must be confirmed by 2 weeks before the event. Pricing is based on this confirmed number; additional guests added afterward may not be guaranteed and may incur added cost if accommodated.

5. Dietary Restrictions & Allergies

You're responsible for disclosing all known food allergies, intolerances, and dietary restrictions for your party at the time of booking or menu finalization. We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate disclosed restrictions, but meals are prepared in a kitchen that handles common allergens (including nuts, dairy, gluten, and shellfish), and we cannot guarantee a completely allergen-free environment. Clients with severe or life-threatening allergies should notify us directly so we can discuss whether we're able to safely accommodate the request.

6. Venue, Access & Travel

  • The client is responsible for providing safe, reasonable access to a functional kitchen or cooking space, along with any necessary permissions (e.g., for private residences, event venues, or vacation rentals).

  • Travel fees may apply for events outside our standard service area. These will be disclosed prior to booking confirmation.

  • We are not responsible for delays or service limitations caused by inadequate venue conditions, equipment, or access.

7. Guest Conduct & Safety

We reserve the right to refuse service or end an event early, without refund, if a guest's behavior threatens the safety of our staff, other guests, or property.

8. Force Majeure

We are not liable for failure to perform services due to events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, extreme weather, public health emergencies, government restrictions, or utility failures. In such cases, we will work with you to reschedule where possible.

9. Photography & Media

Photos or video may occasionally be taken during events for portfolio, marketing, or social media purposes. Let us know in advance if you or your guests prefer not to be photographed, and we will do our best to accommodate that request.

10. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Alan Medbury, Private Chef — including its owner, employees, and staff assisting with events — is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the Services. Our total liability for any claim related to a booking is limited to the amount paid for that booking.

11. Intellectual Property

All content on this Site — including text, recipes, photography, and branding — is the property of Alan Medbury, Private Chef unless otherwise noted, and may not be reproduced without permission.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site or booking of Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
